Post Body

A few weeks ago I was driving home from work, I was on the motorway and began to slow down despite my cruise control being set to 70mph.

Suddenly my check engine light came on, The car was shaking and I had to pull over as I was down to 58mph already. Restarted the car and the engine light was still on but no longer shaking so I limped home at 50.

Initially Stoneacre said the spark plugs were burned and blamed me and said I hadnā€™t topped up my oil because the tank was empty (I argued this because between April 2019 and March 2020 I topped up the oil once. Didnā€™t use my car from March to August because I was furloughed, so how have I used more oil in less time with less miles? I also didnā€™t have a leak because my driveway was spotless).

After a bit of back and fourth they relented and gave me the spark plugs for free as ā€œgood willā€ and only charged me Ā£20 for oil. Fast forward 2 weeks and the light comes back. I check my oil level and itā€™s still almost full...

However, when I went back to Stoneacre they told me a lady with the same car as me had the same issue...turns out the wrong dipstick was fitted during manufacturing so the wrong oil level was showing as the stick is the wrong length.

Now Iā€™m using a curtesy car for the week while they replace the multi air unit thatā€™s been damaged by too much oil in the system.

This is an FYI for any 2019 500X owners
