Hello, I am a Junior English undergrad. I just recently transferred here from FSW and wanted to get some perspectives on the overall quality/nature of these majors. The small number of English faculty ( and therefore classes) is a bit worrying as I hope to study certain material while a student (postmodern lit as an example). Would you say FGCU has a "good" English program?
I also plan to minor (perhaps double major) in Philosophy. Just as well, would you say it has a strong overview of a wide variety of different topics? What about the Profs. Any exceptional ones who inspire the subject?
Specific questions:
- What were the professors like? any exceptional or terrible ones I should look out for? How has the small number of faculty impacted your experience at FGCU?
- Would you say, as an undergrad, that you were well introduced to a wide variety of not only period literature, but topics relevant to Literary Theory and history? What about different literary movements and schools of thought (e.g. Postmodernism)?
- What are you plans after graduation? Would you say FGCU has prepared you for graduate studies and/or entering the professional workforce?
- Do you have any comments on the overall quality of the English program? What about your overall experience? (I leave this question intentionally vague)
- Ever look into the Philosophy department? If so, I would ask the same questions (so far as you can/wish answer them).
It's just that, so far anyway, my classes feel kinda underwhelming, like I'm missing the usual excitement or inspiration I have for learning. Though, perhaps that has to do with the fact that half my classes are online. What do you all think? Anyone feel a similar way?
