FFXIV has always been a game about consistency. We always know the schedule and when and what's to expect. This can be a plus or negative to people but the main thing is people think just because there is a new expansion there needs to be grand sweeping changes. That changed every aspect of the game when that's completely untrue. I like that CBU3 is instead bringing back older content and making it fresh.
Everybody asked for exploration content through out all of endwalker and now they finally promised it but people some reason want more? The interesting thing about this community is we ask for more and new and then when we finally get something new people don't like it. The latest example being V&C. I know people are going to say it's because the rewards but no. People also say it's too hard despite saying the game is too easy.
I believe CBU3 is at the point it's better just add things that worked which is why we're not getting "new" types of content rather we're just getting what's been done and proven to work. Players do not know what they want. I assume once 2min burst windows is gone there are going to be post about "why 2min meta wasn't the problem" and other 2min meta apologist. Of course this is normal with a community so fragmented and confused about what they want. Nobody can even agree what's midcore or not. Yet we ask for midcore content.
Dawntrail not having new types of content is the best move square enix can take with how everybody has been doom posting about FFXIV future. It's better to improve the content we have/had rather than trying to add a new cog to the clock. I expect jobs to be easier too as a result of the inevitable removal of 2min meta.
Jobs have to be more streamlined for the new job actions that are going to be added.
Yoshida assured us every old job will have a brand new rotation so this is their chance to fix the frustrating min max tech jobs have, such as needing 3rd party tools just to be the best for certain jobs. Jobs are always a decisive topic and nobody can agree on what they want so I hope CBU3 ignores most people feedback as it's usually scattered and varied and nobody will be happy if they tried to apply everybody feedback. Because more often than not, usually with the NA players. They just want jobs to be hard as possible which isn't fun to a majority of players.
But the reality is, you can't have a hard job and a hard fight at the same time. Thankfully CBU3 understands this balance.
With the graphics update and returning fan favorite content, streamlined battle jobs. Dawntrail is looking to be the best expansion FFXIV has ever had. They're not adding new risky content that might or might not succeed and just adding things that are known to work and improving upon them and making it more enjoyable.
There will of course will be people that want brand new type of content seeing the doom posting from the community such as 2min meta, island sanctuary, V&C and relic and lack of exploration content (even though people didnt previously like it.) You will realize this is why CBU3 choose not to take big risk.
Speaking of exploration content. I remember people were telling me people always liked it(eureka) and told me to find proof...well the proof was in yoshida words...even he said people hated eureka now people like it. So there is your proof that eureka was unpopular at the time as people swore that wasn't true and I was lying.
But I believe something people need to realize is FFXIV is not going to change it's formula. It works, it's efficient and a majority of people like it which is why this is the second most played MMO in the world. FFXIV doesn't need to surprise you with a mystery of what type of new content we're going to get this patch, it just needs to surprise you in how good the content is. If you don't like this formula then maybe FFXIV isn't the game for you anymore. The game doesn't center around you, it's for everybody and everybody likes the way FFXIV works. It's also very worker people friendly due to the predictably.
There are plenty of other mmo's that just throw whatever random stuff at you in random time windows with random new types of content. FFXIV is a game about consistency and theyre not going to break it just to please the random people that are growing bored or saying it's getting stale and they're going to quit if they don't change it.
With all that. Look forward to Dawntrail!
