One of the biggest complaints I see about FFXIV is that it's more of a single player game or shared world game than a true MMO. Basically, the game offers several ways for a community exist but no way for players to meet like-minded people without having to go to a Discord server or something like that. There's no "General" Server chat or anything like that, basically you go to an area and use Shout chat but then you can get reported for spam and go to the gray room.

So I'm curious what you all think. Personally I think a General chat could help, though I know in other games it breaks down to a Trade chat or not spam. But what if the game held in game events regularly based around meeting other players? I've been playing with the idea of a dating sim type thing at Gold Saucer but where you can go on 'dates' with NPCs, but it would also be cool if you could meet other randoms in that way. Should these sorts of things just be player facilitated or should the devs offer ways to do this as well? What are your thoughts?
