Which class is better for DPS and PvE: Bard or Machinist?

I wanted to play FFXIV for the first time and I came across both classes but I don’t know which one plays better. I do like ranged DPS and generally I go bow and arrow in most MMOs. However, I was disappointed that it is also a support class for the Bard? Does this mean I have to heal people all the time and play as a healer support?

I also like cowboys and gunslinger type classes so the Machinist appealed to me but it seems like they don’t have as fancy customization or outfits and they also seem like clunky or difficult to master? Which is the better class overall for PvE and standing out?
