Who shall rule Ala Mhigo?

Post Body

We are reaching the end of 3.0 but by this time back in 2.0 the man who would eventually become the prominent figure and representative of Ishgard in the Eorzean alliance (Aymeric) had already been introduced.

Since the focus of 4.0 will be the liberation of Ala Mhigo it stands to reason that eventually the last missing city state of Eorzea will join the alliance just like Ishgard recently did. However each city must have a ruler or at least a representative. Gridania has Kan-E-Senna, Ul'Dah has Nanamo Ul Namo (Raubahn for the Grand Company), Lominsa has Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn and Ishgard has Aymeric.

So who will take this role for Ala Mhigo? Note that I wrote "who shall rule Ala Mhigo" because it sounded nice, but the person in question doesn't need to be an absolute ruler in the same way Nanamo and Aymeric aren't.

I made a poll where you can make your vote, but I would suggest reading a few explanations about the various candidates before making your decision.

Raubahn is someone who is already very familiar to us and who has demonstrated to be an incredible military leader (but a poor political one). However, while an Ala Mhigan through and thorough, Raubahn is very deeply tied with Nanamo and the fact that he retook his position as the grand company leader of the immortal flames makes it very unlikely that he will abandon his position. The arguably unnecessary introduction of Pipin Tarupin, however, could find justification if he were to fill the hole in the Immortal Flames that Raubahn would leave should he become the Ala Mhigan representative.

Yda Recent revelations have confirmed how Yda is deeply involved with Ala Mhigo and the resistance. Theories that she might be a princess in incognito (why else is she wearing a mask?) have abounded since a long time. However what little we know about the latest events of Ala Mhigo before it was conquered by Garlemald makes it very unlikely that she is the daughter of the late King. She could however be the fruit of a secret affair or a heiress to the throne from a branch family. Even so should she become the leader or an important figure of the restored Ala Mhigo, she'd inevitably lose her position as one of the active members of the Scions. Not like that is impossible, however, since we have already lost one.

Yda's sister Another recent revelation brought to light the fact that Yda has a sister who, unlike her, wasn't accepted by Sharlayan. Why would she pop up just now? Maybe because she's an important character that will be introduced on the next patch similarly to what happened to Aymeric. As for the reason why she would become the new leader, refer to what I wrote about Yda before. Yda's sister might also be the mysterious blonde girl in red that we have seen in the trailer. Then again we know absolutely nothing about her, and she could just as well be a minor character.

Theodred Who else has more of a right to become the new King if not the only known surviving relative of the previous one? Or... that would be what I'd say if it wasn't for the fact the last King was a bloodthirsty lunatic who brought his nation to a civil war which ultimately led to the current Garlean occupation. Now Theodred might be hated by Ala Mhigans because relative of the "King of ruin", but on the other hand he himself doesn't have any sympathy for his late uncle since he was almost killed by him and was raised by his major opponents in the temple of Rhalgr, which on the contrary are regarded favorably by the Ala Mhigan masses. Theodred also happens to be a very known NPC as confirmed recently by the Lore book spoiler

Ilberd is most likely the man who hides under the name and mask of "the Griffin", who recently has gained much popularity among Ala Mhigan refugees and the resistance. As much as it is obvious to anyone that he's a demented asshole, there's very few people that wish for the liberation of Ala Mhigo more than him. As a clear antagonist it is really very unlikely that he would become the new Ala Mhigan leader, especially because he doesn't really seem eager to join the Eorzean alliance. But, who knows, the possibility that he will redeem himself and change his ways isn't completely out of the question as unlikely as it is. Seriously speaking, though, he's more likely going to be the next Thordan (he even got Nidhogg's eyes already, assuming he's the Griffin).

Gundobald Not much is known about Gundobald apart from the fact he fought for the Ala Mhigan resistance and he is the leader of the Ala Mhigan refugees of Little Ala Mhigo. And since he's already the leader of many Ala Mhigan why not make a step further and become the leader of the one and true Ala Mhigo? There is however the issue of what will happen to little Ala Mhigo. I think it would be very cool if every single refugee in there moved to the liberated city eventually, but realistically speaking... most of those NPCs will probably remain there with some kind of made up reason and therefore Gundobald will also remain to continue his job there.

Gerolt Okay this is even less likely than Ilberd, but I decided to include him anyway. Who wouldn't vote for Gerolt if he were to candidate for the U.S Ala Mhigan presidency? I for one would welcome our new drunkard overlord.

Other known person Perhaps the Griffin isn't really Ilberd but someone else we know (still an antagonist though) or maybe some other known person to us that I haven't mentioned will become the new Ala Mhigan leader. If you think that will be the case, vote this one. Be sure to mention the name in your comment.

Someone we haven't met yet Perhaps just like with Aymeric a new NPC will unexpectedly pop up in the upcoming patch. It might be a little too late in my opinion, but who knows, it's not impossible.

No one Perhaps even after being liberated Ala Mhigo will not become part of the Eorzean Alliance, or worse yet, why are we giving for granted that it will be liberated? Maybe the 4.0 storyline will surprise us with a major defeat for the WoL and a victory for the Garleans. Glory to the Empire!
