Discussion: Melding VIT on Accessories as Healer

Post Body

There's been a lot of talks about what a healer should meld, with opinions varying from full accuracy to a mix of it plus spell speed, determination and critical.

In this thread I'm proposing to take in consideration Vitality as a possible stat to meld (limited to accessories of course).

Why vitality, healers are not tanks!

Well, first off, I'm sure there are many healers who have found themselves in situations where they felt otherwise. No, I mean seriously White Mages and Astrologians are very susceptible of becoming the victims of gang rape by adds when a tank isn't quick enough to grab them or just had a lag spike at the wrong moment. Being able to last a bit more always helps.

But it isn't just that. There have been cases when as a healer I really felt like I needed all the HP I had and even more. Take for example "spiral pierce" from Thordan Ex, if you just missed a few 210 from the left side you could die easily from it, one shotted. And then in case you happened to die and then get raised you would most certainly die again if DPS weren't fast enough to skip the last phase.

Now of course this goes for DPS as well, especially Black Mages, but there's the fact that among all the roles the one that should avoid dying as much as possible is the healer. I'd dare to say, that more than making sure every non main tank is properly healed and more than helping with DPS, a healer first concern should be to remain alive himself.

But surely as much as more HP certainly make things safer, they aren't worth the loss of more useful stats

Honestly, if you say Determination and spell speed... I don't really agree that they are really that useful. Their contribution to improve your healing, especially in the limited amount you can put on accessories, isn't really that great. It's way better to be always the last man standing when things go awry rather than having some small additional amount of healing which is usually unnecessary.

Critical is a different matter, if you are a scholar, but for WHMs and ASTs it does as little as the stuff discussed above.

Piety is a fair contestant... but only insofar as you feel you don't have enough, that might depends on the equip you'll end up with.

Lastly Accuracy. And this is, in my opinion, the main reason not to meld VIT on your accessories. It depends on how much you DPS and on how much your party relies on your DPS to clear contents, or how much you hate missing your holy and gravity.

The latest contents seem to be very harsh on accuracy requirements so healers, who lack any kind of accuracy in their equip, are hard pressed to stack it as much as possible if they want to land their spells more consistently.

Then again it is also true that the DPS requirements for end game contents have been toned down compared to those on the previous patches.
