So let's say you are nice and honest player, someone who wants and likes to play by the rules, without cheating and without shortcuts. I'm going to assume that you are that kind of player, if you aren't, this topic isn't for you.
Because here I'm not trying to revamp the usual trite discussions about whether it's okay to buy gils or to bot or not. Here I'm trying to gather opinions from those who already think and agree that such actions are bad. And the question is: "What do\would you do when\if someone you've been playing with for a long time, a FC member and perhaps even a friend comes out nonchalantly telling you that he bought gils or that he bots?"
And I'm not even talking about someone who confessed he did such thing while he's sorry about that and all, everyone has their moments of weakness, and if you are truly a good person you should also be forgiving. No, I'm talking about people who aren't sorry at all, or rather they don't even think they did something wrong to begin with.
So what is your attitude towards that kind of people? And let's say you are completely surrounded by such people, like your whole FC even if not every member partakes in such activities, is generally okay with those and do not think of them as a big deal.
1) You are a preacher. Every times someone talks about the gils he bought or how it's cool to wake in the morning with 5 levels more gained in northern Thanalan by botting, you start explaining why it is wrong and all. You know you are doing the good thing, but you are also aware that everyone thinks you are a stuck up obnoxious moralist, and they all wish you shut up already.
2) You do nothing. You are content by doing the right thing and living by your own principles. What the others are doing is no concern of yours. However deep down you can't shake the feeling that by fraternizing with such individuals you are tacitly approving of their actions, and that the fact that nobody ever tells them that they are wrong is the very reason they don't think they're doing anything wrong.
3) You are fundamentalist. You black list everyone that you bots and buy gils. If they are in your friendlist, you remove them, if you find out that your FC condones such actions, you quit and look for another one. You then realize how the 200 cap isn't even remotely sufficient to black list all the people that you think deserve it, and how few are the people that you are fine playing with.
You probably do not fit exactly in any of these 3 broad categories, you probably are a bit of this and that, or perhaps you have a completely different attitude. Whichever it is, I'd like to read your opinions and insights. What do you do, what are your experiences, what do you feel would be the right thing to do?
