Just bought game, can I still get early access?

Hello, I was going to buy the game the day it went out, but my friends notified me that you could've been playing by now if you pre-ordered it.
They convinced me to pre-order it, now so far I haven't received a pre-order code thing to let me play in advance.
Am I too late for it? Or does it just take a while to get it?
