Is four years too old for a surgery?

Post Body

Last night I discovered that my four year old ferret Polar Bear has a bloated stomach so today I rushed him to the vet.

She did xrays but couldn’t see clearly enough to see what was causing it, just that there was a large mass pushing on his intestines. She recommended either surgery or euthanasia and immediately I jumped on surgery and scheduled it for next week.

But now that I’m home and thinking on it. Would it be cruel to put PB through a surgery? His lifespans so short, would this really be worth it for him? Am I just doing the surgery for myself since I’m obviously not ready to say goodbye?

I want to do whatever would make him more better, and right now I don’t know what that is.
