Is my ferret sick or is he dying?

My pet ferret, Pabu, is around 4 years old and suddenly he has started to have trouble walking when he was fine just the previous day. His hind legs seem to be weak and lays down often but he can still walk a little. His breathing also seems to be pretty fast but he is still able to use the bathroom and he still eats and drinks water when I put him next to the bowls. Do you think he’s developed some kind of disease or is he dying?
