Older ferret suddenly acting more hyperactive. Why?

Post Body

My lil dude Alphy is a 7 year old Marshall ferret. He's been tested and treated for adrenal, and he has tested negative for insulinoma.

Lately he gets up early in the morning and "cage rages" where he pulls the bars on the cage aggressively. When I let him out, he runs about the house at high speed, seemingly jumping from one point of interest to the next, but not trying to do anything in particular. He doesn't engage a lot while he's doing this.

He typically gets anywhere from 4-12 hours of free roam time every day, and he gets attention and play and cuddles throughout the day from me and my spouse.

What could be causing this hyperactivity? I saw similar behavior in my little Lily when she was put on pred for insulinoma, but as I said, Alphy tested negative for it earlier this year.
