Milk kefir short-term pause button

Hi,
I have been making milk kefir for several years and was under the impression that throwing the grains in the fridge was only an acceptable option for no less than several days.
Because of this, I have had to plan ahead if I am going to be away from home for even one or two days.
I'm wondering: what options are there for short periods of time when I'll be away from the kitchen? Can I put the grains milk in the fridge for 24-48 hours without incident?
