How do y'all shave your face?

I'm really struggling with shaving my face.
I use a safety razer (like my ole granpapy). It gets it pretty close, but I can feel a slight stubble, and more so at night.
Im scared of trying to go against the grain cuz last time it hurt and I got hella bumps/acne.
I tried a foil shaver after normal shaving and wow it got it perfect. But it slightly hurt and I got bumps/acne too.
What do y'all do. I need help!
