I see a lot of people that are talking about being too nervous to go out in fem, and I do understand that there are some places where you should be concerned, but I want to share my story so you all have at least one reference point, and why I feel that there isn't nearly as much to worry about as you might think.
I was also nervous to go out in fem, given that I live in North Carolina, which is not a super progressive place, and in a place with a LOT of rednecks. I decided to go out in fem to grocery shop at a Walmart, really seeing how it would go, and...nothing. No dirty looks, no mean comments, nothing. People were just as polite as usual. So I continued, and it's been over five months, and that pattern has continued, except people started complimenting me. I have gotten compliments on my colorful thigh highs, compliments on the mask I wear, and the other day an older black lady tugged on my sleeve to tell me that both me and my outfit were so cute and that she loved it.
Yes, there are assholes out there, and you may have some bad experiences, but from my months of experience in a place that most would put towards the bottom of their progressive list, it's been great. I know it's tough, my bf who also dresses fem is also worried and gets nervous in public, but if he can do it, and I can do it, I believe that you can do it. I am rooting for you! Go get 'em cuties!
