Hey! I asked just yesterday about advice on how to ask to move up a GS ladder position that I've been stuck at for almost three years. While I talked to my supervisor and he said that one of his goals for 2024 was to get me to the GS 12 spot, a lot of the advice was to look for other jobs at other agencies since it's not guaranteed. Well, today a friend emailed my an opening to a great job with another agency in my same city that I should be able to qualify for the GS 12 easily, plus it sounds like a job that I'd enjoy more since it doesn't involve contracting, which is my weakest skill at my current job. I'm going to at least apply, but how should I handle the situation? Obviously I'm not guaranteed the job, so I don't feel a need to tell me current supervisor right away, unless there's a way that it could get me to the GS 12 in my current job sooner. There's also the chance that I get my GS 12 raise before any decision is made about the new position. I know I shouldn't feel bad, but I would feel bad about leaving my current agency for money.
On a side note What's USDA's current telework policy? Also dreading DOI's RTO starting in two weeks. I'd be in NRCS.
