THE MAP

This is an imperialism map inspired by u/nbingham196's brilliant idea and created with invaluable help from u/JohnDoeMonopoly. The principle of an imperialism map is that each county in the America is assigned the closest team. The distance for each team is calculated based on the great-circle distance between the stadium of the team and the center of the county according to US Census Bureau data. This map reflects the results of Round 2. When teams win games, they gain the land of the team they beat. Because the FCS playoff is a knockout format, every winner is guaranteed to gain land and the national champion will end up will everything at the end.

The population and land area statistics for each team is as follows:

TEAM COUNTIES POPULATION AREA
Eastern Washington 238 48,026,550 1,092,035
North Dakota State 413 18,642,198 653,394
Weber State 579 62,345,299 644,953
UC Davis 522 59,154,364 538,868
South Dakota State 510 40,624,824 372,623
Kennesaw State 366 42,247,959 199,475
Maine 324 16,113,805 183,171
Colgate 190 21,584,317 112,215

I will try to make new maps as the FCS playoffs progress, but finals are right around the corner, so time may be tight. But I'll do my best to update the map over the course of the playoffs. What do you think of the term "Clay-off" map?

I have also posted this to r/cfb. Check out that discussion here.
