I'm brand new to FM. I've been reading up on it and I'm really appreciating their approach to privacy and flexibility.

I purchased a domain name to eventually use as my main email account. From my understanding, I can use FM as my email hosting.

I signed up for FM with a FM email address (####@fastmail.com). I have the Standard Plan. I connected my custom domain, updating my records and I managed to send an email. But it's setup as an alias rather than my main email account. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Under the Domain setting, it says "You have no users and 1 alias at this domain. To manage these, go to Settings → Users & Aliases.". How do I create a user for this custom domain? Meaning I login into FM using my custom domain email.
