Hello one and all, so I am 17 and in highschool. I was always into reading/writting but given that I was also a video game addict that pretty much prevented me from ever wanting to give it any serious thought, however thanks to my parents recently getting rid of most of my electronics I turn to writting as a new personal timekiller, I ain't mad I am however determined AS FUCK to prove to them I can waste my time on just about anything.
So I came up with a fantasy world, with a magic system and magical creatures (some original while some are derived from local pacific island folklore) and all of that yada yada. One of the main things I find very hard to do is to determine where in time the story will be, mind you it is not a story about one character,it is about multiple. Starts off with one dude then he dies then goes on to another one then she gets imprisoned then onto the next and etcetera etcetera. The technology in this world is still kinda foggy to me even though I have already dove so deep into almost every other feature of the world and its regions (Politics, Social Hierarchy, Magic System, Geography, History, Religion and so on).
In this world magic is key to everything, with people who do not possess it (are not born with it) considered to be handicapped, it is seen as a physical aspect of one's body, therefore the same way you can train your muscles to become jacked you can train your magic to potentially become a wizard who can level a mountain range.
Magic in this world is based on emotion, the output being proportional to your emotional state already established magical capabilities (magic levels are a thing still working on it), and in terms of science there is little interest. Scientific dvancements in civilisation can be made by, no joke, anyone. Given that the nature of magic is unkown even to the users they just cast spells based on how they feel, and if the result is something that can, for example, bring about a stable source of electricity, they take note of it and just normalize that spell, spreading it around the populace (or do their best to hide that spell if the person discovering it is a selfish prick).
So given that being the normal practice to everyone, it results in a flunctuation in scientific advancements across the numerous civilisations, atleast when comparing it to the real world. So for example, a region where elemental magic variation is practiced may have electricity due to more of it's population dabbling in elemental magic (and it's lightning variation), while another region that focuses on elemental magic's flame variation has access to food that gives you orgasms due to them being able to control the temperature of whatever they are cooking via magic.
So all in all this leads to some places being comparable to midieval Europe and have modern day plumbing while others may be like 20 century America but they still focus on melee combat, another would still be in the stone age yet for some reason has access to really advanced agricultural systems while few may be way more futuristic than even our real world.
It is kinda outlandish and I suck at explaining but I hope it atleast is somewhat understandable, if you give me advice and criticism or just roast the idea and call it crap.
Thanks for listening and have a wonderful day/night/evening/afternoon/morning!
