Critique my fantasy world (PANDOO) idea?

Post Body

I've been developing a fantasy story in my mind for some time now. A lot of storylines within this world have been thought of, and I know the main characters and things like that. However, there's just something about the world I feel that needs fine-tuning. Names are still up in the air, other than Pandoo and the name of the three Domes discussed. I haven't expressed this idea out in the open too often, so I would love some additional feedback from anyone that wants to take a look at it. Down to provide more info on it if you would like as well! Super interested to see what people think!

**********************************

The story is set on a planet named Pandoo. Pandoo is said amongst many cultures on the world to essentially be “living,” and has a literal energy that impacts the flora, fauna, and its inhabitants.

Pandoo, at this point in the story, is a mostly a desolate wasteland. There is currently one large continent on Pandoo, and its primarily a shitty desert. The air quality is so poor in many areas, that the only way to survive is by living near what are known as “waterfields.” These waterfields are large lakes of water that are present at a certain period, but slowly retract and “migrate” across the desert. Native animals known as “Behemoths” that are still alive have a special connection to these waterfields, timing their migration and inter species relationships with the waterfields’ movement. (Behemoths are also about 3x as large as the humans on Pandoo) There are, however, some tribes of humans that are able to survive these conditions, known as Freebodies. These tribes are able to survive by forming connections to the Behemoths at the waterfields, and thus are able to set up camp for the time being. When the waterfields eventually move (typically once every few years), these tribes migrate alongside the Behemoths.

Another difficulty of those living in the lives of Freebodies is the potential to run into humanoid creatures that are grotesque and feral. Methods have been developed to avoid these creatures, but fighting skills have also been taught amongst the tribes to defend themselves against them.

These tribes are referred to as Freebodies because they are a sect minority of the human population. Through technological advancements and the harvesting of many waterfields, cities known as “Domes” have been created. They are known as such, due to large domes that surround their entire cities and helps purify air and provide protection from rogue Behemoths.

The Domes that are present are Capula, New Arclight, and Batay. Capula is the oldest of these Domes, and serves as the primary lawmaking force over the other domes, giving an illusion of a utopia city. New Arclight is the hub-center for technological advancement. The largest Dome of the three (as well as the one with the highest population), they’ve made advancements to the point of being a near cyberpunk city. Batay is the youngest of the Domes, and is essentially a military city. The inhabitants of Batay have many aspects of their culture that ties back to the mysticism of Pandoo, due to their origins of guarding the Great Forest of Pandoo. This a portion of the land where there is lush forest, untouched by the wasteland. It is said that venturing into the forest will lead to death, and it is common knowledge that fabled monsters were banished into this part of the continent. There haven’t been any attacks in generations, but Batay remains as the primary defense just in case.

The origins of the Great Forest are linked to fabled powerful beings known as "pandrins." Pandrins are essentially the magic users of this world, but have not been officially seen in generations. Legends across cultures tell a similar story of pandrins banishing evils into the Great Forest and sealing it off with their magic. Following this, pandrins came into conflicts with the humans present at the time, and after losing a war with them are said to have "fled into the sky" and now reside in what are referred to as "kites." As said before, no one has officially seen a pandrin in generations, to the point that many attribute them to pure stuff of fables. There's the occasional wise-tale of interact with one, or the occassional cult rising of someone claiming to be a "pandrin," but these are typically dispelled rather quickly.

Elsewhere in the world, are those who live on small islands that are guarded by a sea of ships (from initial explorers) known as “floats.” The people of the floats are things of fear and superstition by those that live on the Continent. Unlike pandrins, it's been well documented that these individuals exist. Travel to floats has been historically difficult, as rarely any ships from the Continent are able to venture into the ocean without being destroyed. The only area that is not too dangerous to travel to is a float that is known to partake in human slavery. It's further rumored that other floats have vicious ties to ocean spirits/creatures, and may not even be entirely human themselves.
