So fairly new to the writing scene, but has been an interest of mine for some time. Recently had a good run of inspiration an ideas are coming together for once.
Except when it comes to naming...I feel like I'm getting caught up on something sounding to nonsensical, or uncool, or just plain sound like I'm copying from someplace else.
In example a working name I have for a character I've been fleshing out is "Tenebrae" the culture has names based in Latin origin (go easy on me like I said new to this) but for any Star Wars fans out there, that's a name of a pretty iconic character. Granted he doesn't use that name for long but...and I'm sure it's a name other fantasy series have made use of.
I guess what my question is for more experienced writers is how do you combat the feeling of originality and satisfaction? If that would be the best way to put it, something that sounds good I guess. When you create names for people/places?
Not that this is completely holding me back from developing the characters and culture I'm working on, just slightly awkward when they don't have names.
TL,DR Making names for people/places that don't sound ripped off and or don't sound completely silly is harder than I thought.
Also I'm aware of the site:
Fantasy name generators.
