Leveling all lives at same time?

I have had this came since it came out but just got back into it, I have completed the main story line and only have about 30 hours of game play.
I see some people who stick to one life until they get creator and then move to another and then some people pick 3-4 to work on.
What I have been doing is trying them all so I have all of them but am not very ranked up in any of them novice to adept. Is there any downsides to doing it this way?
