So some of my leagues feel like they’re already done for the year with the start I got off to and I’m starting to look forward to changes for next year. I am commissioner of a small league that dropped from 10 to 8 teams this season and it got me thinking, why not just add spots to make it more like a 12 team league? This makes the advice found in this sub and across the web more useful. I added a few this year but sat down the other day and ran the numbers and this is what I came up with for skill positions and benches.
In a 12 team league with normal roster spots you have
12x2 = 24x wr spots
12x2 = 24x rb spots
12x1 = 12x te spots
12x1 = 12x flex spots
12x6 = 72x bench spots with standard size benches across all teams.
So, for an 8 team or 10 team leagues you would wind up with the following:
8 team:
3x wr = 24x wr
3x rb = 24x rb
1x te = 8x te
2x flex = 16x flex
9x bench = 72x bench spots.
10 team:
2x wr = 20x wr
2x rb = 20x rb
1x te = 10x te
2x flex = 20x flex
7x bench = 70x bench spots
As you can see this creates roughly the same player spread that you would see in a 12 team. I’m even considering changing the te spot to wr/te to give more versatility there since there are several teams that don’t really utilize the te spot.
In addition to this I’m looking to add a second game each week where the top half of teams in points get an extra win and the bottom half get an extra loss. Has anyone played doing things similar to these? What was your experience? Are there any other useful rules changes you’ve found?
