Learning Football Stats, to discuss with a child.

Hi folks, this may be a bit of a weird request.
I'm a divorced dad and I haven't seen my son in a while. I was told that he was interested in football stats, but not any specific teams.
I know very little about football, but I want to connect with my son.
Is there a website or video series that can act as a primer that I can study so I can discuss stats with him, that you all can recommend? Any other stats advice would be much appreciated.
