Astral Projections: Week 3 Tarot Readings (TNF)
Post Body
The seasons are changing r/fantasyfootball! The leaves are turning, the air is heavy, and fantasy points are ready for harvest. Will you be there to reap the benefits? Or will you ignore the warnings of the Tarot deck and find nothing but despair?
Let's find out, my friends.
Notes:
- I currently use Golden Thread Tarot to save time and better record each read. Some reads in the future might be done with a physical deck.
- Each player has a single tarot card drawn to inform the question "How will [player name] perform in [week x] of the 2019-2020 NFL season?"
- The keyword cells relate to a description in Labyrinthos. They are the same descriptions/card illustrations as those in the Golden Thread app and help explain my comments on the card visuals.
- I'm not experienced in Tarot readings prior to last NFL season.
Tennessee Titans:
Position | Player Name | Card | Keywords | Hot Take |
---|---|---|---|---|
QB | Marcus Mariota | The Devil | Excess, materialism, playfulness | I think the imagery here represents Mariota playing well, but his receivers playing poorly. An injury wouldn't be surprising here, with Mariota simply forced to endure continued hits. This downgrades him, despite the positive-sounding keywords, |
RB | Derrick Henry | X of Wands - Reversed | Inability to delegate, lack of priorities | Well, I don't think and owners want Henry to delegate. Lightening the load isn't good for a fantasy RB, he'll get a great workload. |
RB | Dion Lewis | VIII of Cups | Walking away, disillusionment, leaving behind | Stay away from Lewis. |
WR | Corey Davis | VIII of Cups - Reversed | Confusion, fear of the unknown, fear of loss | Wow, two in a row. Bad performances continue. I wouldn't be surprised if this is his best performance of the year as he's come to terms with things, but still not fantasy relevant. |
WR | Adam Humphries | V of Cups | Loss, grief, disappointment | Jeez. three upturned cups, two upright. Can't be as obvious as 2 receptions and 5 targets, can it? No matter what he's not a player I'd consider starting this week. |
WR | Tajae Sharpe | V of Pentacles | Need, poverty, insecurity | He's begging for the ball and points but won't do much for it. Empty hands. |
TE | Delanie Walker | V of Cups - Reversed | Acceptance, moving on, finding peace | Walker will have a decent game, better than last week. But don't expect TE1 status as he's still trying to move on from the loss. |
K | Cairo Santos | VII of Pentacles | Hard work, perseverance, diligence | Santos will have the opportunity to go off tonight. There's a bit of luck needed here, solid option at K this week. |
DST | Queen of Swords | Complexity, perceptive, clear-mindedness | Well, the DST will at least perform solidly. They're a good start this week, kind obvious, but a good draw none the less. |
Jacksonville Jaguars:
Position | Player Name | Card | Keywords | Hot Take |
---|---|---|---|---|
QB | Gardner Minshew II | King of Wands - Reversed | Impulsive, overbearing, unachievable expectations | This could be his worst game of the short season. While I don't think this draw is a death sentence, multiple interceptions are a real concern. |
RB | Leonard Fournette | Page of Wands | Exploration, Excitement, freedom | Good draw! Best game of the season so far coming, but not his best of the whole season. Should win back some believers. |
RB | Ryquell Armstead | IV of Swords | Rest, restoration, contemplation | Not fantasy relevant at all. |
WR | Dede Westbrook | The Hanged Man - Reversed | Stalling, needless sacrifice, fear of sacrifice | Oof. Not a good draw, just confusion and fear. The sacrifice was his QB, but Westbrook isn't moving forward tonight. |
WR | Chris Conley | II of Pentacles | Balance, priorities, adapting to change | Conley and Minshew have a solid connection. Expect him to continue his solid performances. A TD is likely as his hands are full. |
WR | DJ Chark | The Devil - Reversed | Freedom, release, restoring control | Chark is playing free. A single big play on blown coverage is what I feel. Chains breaking means missed tackles. |
TE | James O'Shaughnessy | The High Priestess | Intuition, unconscious, inner voice | Very odd draw. I see endzone targets coming, but I don't see him capitalizing on it. Likely not a drop that is his fault. |
K | Josh Lambo | Queen of Swords | Complexity, perceptive, clear-mindedness | So many duplicates this week. Lambo will be hitting his kicks, he might not get a ton of them, but the accuracy is there. No misses, a long kick likely. |
DST | IV of Pentacles | Conservation, security, frugality | Stability is good for a defense, so we should see them perform well. I see the frugality as not allowing the Titans to go off, but still ending in a fairly mediocre fantasy score. Keeping the point total of the Titans down, but not scoring themselves. |
