Astral Projections: Week 1 TNF Tarot Draws
Post Body
Why hello there r/fantasyfootball. It has been a while since our last meeting. Are you concerned about your squad? Are machine learning algorithms and a stream of endless tv personalities making you cross-eyed? I understand completely.
Come, your seat is still warm and the cards are freshly shuffled. Let's sit down together and consult the world of Tarot for the sake of sports entertainment!
Notes:
- I currently use Golden Thread Tarot to save time and better record each read. Some reads in the future might be done with a physical deck.
- Each player has a single tarot card drawn to inform the question "How will [player name] perform in [week x] of the 2019-2020 NFL season?"
- Each card cell links to a description in Labyrinthos. They are the same descriptions/card illustrations as those in the Golden Thread app and help explain my comments on the card visuals.
- I'm not experienced in Tarot readings prior to last NFL season.
Here we go:
Green Bay:
Position | Player Name | Card | Keywords | Hot take |
---|---|---|---|---|
QB | Aaron Rodgers | The Tower - Reversed | Disaster avoided, delaying disaster, fear of suffering | I'm concerned about the new coaching staff and change for Rodgers. He's going to perform this game, but we'll see cracks. |
RB | Aaron Jones | VIII of Wands - Reversed | Obstacles, waiting, slowing down | Mediocre performance draw. It sounds like he's also not on the same page as the staff this week, but nothing critical. |
RB | Jamaal Williams | The Empress - Reversed | Dependence, smothering, emptiness | Stay away. This card signifies drained strength and relying on others. |
WR | Davante Adams | The Tower - Reversed | Disaster avoided, delaying disaster, fear of suffering | At least Adams and Rodgers are on the same page. I think this is what holds the tower together, their connection on the field. |
WR | Valdez Scantling | Knight of Cups - Reversed | Moodiness, disappointment | I stay away from disappointment. It sounds like Valdez Scantling might take himself out of this game. |
WR | G. Allison | IV of Swords | Rest, restoration, contemplation | Not a huge game, but it sounds like he'll continue to shine in a small way. |
TE | Jimmy Graham | Vi of Swords - Reversed | Emotional baggage, unresolved issues, resisting transition | Sounds pretty much like Graham. He's just still not there and doesn't have the connection he needs with the team. |
K | Mason Crosby | X of Pentacles | Legacy, inheritance, culmination | Points for Crosby this week. He knows he'll play well and will make it happen. They're literally growing on a tree. |
DST | II of Cups - Reversed | Imbalance, broken communication, tension | Nope, bad game for the packers dst. |
The Bears:
Position | Player Name | Card | Keywords | Hot take |
---|---|---|---|---|
QB | Mitch Trubisky | Queen of Swords | Complexity, perceptive, clear-mindedness | Mitch is dialed in and should perform well. I'd expect some solid passing numbers as he swings his sword with laser focus. |
RB | David Montgomery | The World | Fulfillment, harmony, completion | Coming out hot. Wonderful draw for a rookie. He has reached some completion just making the field on opening day, but look for him to put together a complete game. |
RB | Tarik Cohen | II of Cups | Unity, partnership, two become one | I think this is a good sign for Cohen. He's on the same page as his QB and is in a role that suits him. He takes a backseat to Montgomery, but he's good in that role. |
WR | Allen Robinson | IV of Pentacles - reversed | Greediness, stinginess, possessiveness | Low yards but a TD or high yards and no TD. Something is out of balance, but greediness and hoarding can be good in fantasy. |
WR | Anthony Miller | Ace of cups - reversed | wasted emotions, blocked creativity, emptiness | Doesn't sound good for Miller. Water pours out of the cup and so will his FPs. Could be stifled by the defense here. |
WR | Taylor Gabriel | King of Wands | Big picture, leader, overcoming challenges | A great draw for Taylor. I'd expect pretty basic routes but good hands. A lack of creativity isn't always bad though, especially if you're following the playbook. |
TE | [this just changed, I'll update soon] | |||
K | Eddy Pineiro | The Wheel of Fortune | Change, cycles, inevitable fate | Unknown, this performance is outside human control. |
DST | III of Wands | Looking ahead, expansion, rapid growth | Solid. Both the art and concept show a strong wall and the coming together of plans. They're ready for this game. |
