Astral Projections: Week 1 RB and WR Tarot Readings
Post Body
I'm back! And this time with RB and WR readings. For those who are new, I'm providing single card Tarot readings for players each week. Here's my first post with Week 1 QB reads.
This post only has top 10 at each spot. The full list of reads can be found here:
Notes on all this stuff:
- I currently use Golden Thread Tarot to save time and better record each read. Some reads in the future might be done with a physical deck.
- Each player has a single tarot card drawn to inform the question "How will [player name] perform in Week 1 of the NFL season?"
- Each card cell links to a description in Labyrinthos. They are the same descriptions/card illustrations as those in the Golden Thread app and help explain my comments on the card visuals.
- I'm not experienced in Tarot readings at all.
- Feel free to request specific players that you're interested in, esp for afternoon/evening games. If I have time I'll add them to the spreadsheets (linked above)!
- Should have this all up on a blog next week to keep everything centralized.
Okay! Here are the top 10 RBs and WRs:
RB Name | Card | Keywords | Hot Take |
---|---|---|---|
Todd Gurley | VI of Swords | Transition, leaving behind, moving on | The LA journey is still on its way. They haven't reached the destination, but everyone, Gurley included, is on board. Good sign for Todd, he's prepared and working towards more success. |
David Johnson | IX of Pentacles | Mistakes, obsession with work, setbacks | DJ just signed an extension and it might have been taking his mind off the upcoming game. Hopefully he can shed this before the game starts. |
Ezekiel Elliott | Judgement | Reflection, reckoning, inner voice | “The cusp of rebirth.” Not much could sound better to those with Elliott. Look for him to be the focal point this week with a new take on his role in the NFL. |
Alvin Kamara | King of Swords | Intellectual, power, truth | This is going to be a great week for Kamara. He's prepared, he's skilled, and any reference to cuts in a card for an RB must be a good sign. |
Melvin Gordon | Justice - Reversed | Dishonesty, unacountability, unfairness | Haven’t drawn this card reversed before. Something hasn’t been addressed and Melvin is going to pay for it. Injury? Neglecting playbook/training? Some issue in the locker room/with coaching? No matter what, Gordon might be too in his own head against KC. |
Saquon Barkley | Queen of Swords | Complexity, perceptive, clear mindedness | Sounds like a clinical debut for Saquon. He’s coming into this game with the playbook down and and he’s studied the Jacksonville defense. Tough match-up, but it sounds like he’s as prepared as possible. |
Christian McCaffrey | Queen of Pentacles | Practicality, creature comforts, financial security | “A woman that is blessed with the gifts of sensual comforts and domestic talents.” CMC is going to be great DFS play if Olsen is at all limited. A card focused around bringing their loved ones joy and being well pampered has to be seen as a positive sign. High floor, higher ceiling. |
Joe Mixon | The Emperor - Reversed | Tyranny, rigidity, coldness | “In this case, the authority that he exudes has turned to dominion, his firm grasp of his kingdom turning into suffering.” Well, this card is about Marvin Lewis. Mixon is bound by the game plan and his fate is solely held by the coaching staff. I think he’ll succeed if allowed to. |
Kareem Hunt | V of Swords | Unbridled ambition, win at all costs, sneakiness | Well, Kareem is going to get his this week. I think KC as a whole finds success, but it might paint a target on his/their backs after this game. Everyone fighting for touches? |
LeSean McCoy | Temperance | The middle path, patience, finding meaning. | This card boils down to “middling” but not in a negative way, more a peaceful and accepting balance. Expect Shady to get some points, but nothing spectacular. This is a tough match-up and he’s not going to be overplayed in hopes of keeping him healthy long-term. |
WR Name | Card | Keywords | Hot Take |
---|---|---|---|
Antonio Brown | X of Pentacles | Legacy, inheritance, culmination | "This is the end of the path, and it is full of joy." Great week ahead y'all, Brown is going to play a huge part with Bell out. |
Odell Beckham | The Hierophant | Tradition, conformity, morality and ethics | We know Odell's role in New York. Nothing has changed, the Giants will be the Giants and he will get his this week. |
DeAndre Hopkins | Page of Cups | Delightful suprise, inner child, intuition | Hopkins will look spy this week and should have a positive game. He's holding the energy of Houston in his hands, which sounds good for a receiver. |
Michael Thomas | VII of Wands - Reversed | Give up, destroyed confidence, feeling overwhelmed | Not a great sign for Thomas... He's going to be swamped by the defense and find himself under pressure at all times. This card looks like it's painting a target on his back. |
Keenan Allen | VI of Swords | Transition, leaving behind, moving on | Hm, Allen isn't at his destination yet and needs time to develop. Just some early season rust? Not a bad sign, but not a full endorsement. The whole team looks to be in the same boat though, so that's good. |
Davante Adams | II of Wands - Reversed | Lack of planning, disorganization, bad planning | Someone hasn't been doing their homework! He's in the #1 position, but isn't fully ready to do what GB wants him to. Potential is there, but Adams needs more time to practice and study. |
A.J. Green | IV of Wands - Reversed | Lack of communication, instability, home conflicts | Sounds like some locker room or organizational issues are taking place in Cincy (I'm so surprised!). Sounds like Green's failures will be his own this week, but it sounds like only moments of tension rather than true failure. |
Tyreek Hill | II of Cups - Reversed | Herd mentality, conformity solitude | Sounds like Reek has been reigned in a bit and isn't being allowed to be as creative as he might need. However, this could be a good thing KC as a whole. Conformity can be positive in a team sport, even though it might negate some individual moments of brilliance. |
Mike Evans | Ace of Swords - Reversed | Confusion, brutality, chaos | Really interesting draw. It recognizes Evans amazing ability, but also the chaos in Tampa as a whole. It's really hard to predict how he'll perform with Fitz at QB. |
