What if I told you there is a TE that has a similar draft profile and rookie season as Dalton Kincaid; Also is younger, and on a team that lost 100 targets.
This tight end in 2022 (rookie season), was the only TE not named Mark Andrews to average both 3 yards of separation & a depth of target of 10 yards.
He comes into 2024 with a full camp and participated in 2 pre-season games while being held out of the 3rd game along with all other starters (good sign).
His coach named him the "joker" player who is "either a running back or a tight end with exceptional ball skills and then you can work matchups."
The TE I am referring to is Greg Dulcich. Now let's compare him with Dalton Kincaid:
Greg Dulcich (24 yrs 4 months) | Dalton Kincaid (24 yrs, 8 months) | |
---|---|---|
Draft Profile | 6'4", 243 lbs, 4.69s 40-yd dash | 6'4", 246 lbs, 4.68s 40-yd dash |
Rookie Season | - | - |
Games Played | 10 | 16 |
Yards/Game | 41.1 yds | 42.06 yds |
TDs/Game | 0.2 TDs | 0.125 TDs |
Targets/Game | 5.5 tgts | 5.7 tgts |
Target Share | 17.2% | 17.7% |
Target Rate | 19.3% | 20% |
Snap Share | 75.2% | 65.6% |
Slot Snaps | 40.9% | 49.1% |
In addition, Dulcich put up the above rookie numbers with Russell Wilson who is known for not throwing over the middle to TEs. However, Bo Nix is a short-yard passing god (see his college passing chart). Lastly, on his total of 59 targets in the NFL he has yet to drop a pass.
Now some of you might be saying "ya well he is always injured." Last I checked nearly all tight ends except for Travis Kelce are pretty much injured throughout their career. Does anyone forget Gronk is younger than Kelce and is not only retired but lost his burst way before his last days of football?
Another some of you might say "well he has Trautman there and Trautman is Payton's guy." I could make the same argument about Dawson Knox and would go on the record saying Knox is a much better receiver than Trautman.
Disclaimer: I'm an idiot and could be completely wrong and you probably shouldn't read too much into this post.
TLDR: If you missed out on TE or looking for a backup to this often injured position, I would HIGHLY consider Dulcich before week 1.
Likely, Sinnot, Dulcich… what order do you like these guys?
