Freddie Prinze Jr. and The Promotion That Never Was, Part 1/? - Dream On

Post Body

Freddie Prinze Jr., a famous actor turned wrestling booker who was part of WWE's creative team in the late 2000s, has been eagerly giving small updates as he works towards opening his own professional wrestling promotion.

"When I was able to give 100% and not focus on family, friends, or anything else, I was really, really good"

Prinze Jr clearly has confidence that he could create and successfully book a new pro wrestling company into existence, but, this promotion has been in the works since the Obama administration.

To put this in perspective, Prinze Jr was trying to get the promotion started almost four years prior to AEW starting and becoming the second biggest professional wrestling company.

A lot of time has passed, at one point it was reported Bray Wyatt was meant to be a focal point of the promotion before he rejoined WWE. All of this is to say, we have gotten nothing. No roster. No TV deal. No company.

I've always had a fascination with underdog promotions. The wrestling companies that aren't in the mainstream, but can consistently deliver a good product and frequently quietly make the stars of tomorrow.

Places such as Lucha Underground and PWG come to mind. Places that aren't trying to compete with WWE because that's not why they exist. I believe that would be the best route that this ever-alluding promotion could hope to take. Both of the companies I mentioned prior are defunct now, so there is an appetite for that type of product.

I would have the promotion presented as an episodic series with the first season having ten to fifteen episodes. The season finale would come in the form of a PPV that could be purchased through Triller or YouTube and occur two months after the season has aired.

This is a format that no other wrestling company has ever taken before, you get people intrigued with a bingeable mass episode release, adding television elements to the wrestling product to build unique stories and then culminate them with the season finale, as a separate buyable PPV.

Since Prinze Jr. knows TV, it also just makes the most sense. I would have it be similar to Lucha Underground in that it's a wrestling show almost cosplaying as a TV show, this allows for fresh stories that can't be told anywhere else.

With that clarified, onto the roster.

Roster:

Aetherio - FKA Kalisto, Aetherio is an angel themed luchador doning blue, gold and white attire. When a face is in peril, or a heel cheats to win, Aetherio is likely to come to the save.

Andrew Everett - A laid-back happy go lucky character who is high on life and expresses that in his wrestling style.

Aréz - An enigmatic luchador who plays a Joker esque character and implements mind games on his opponents.

Axton-Dash Connection - The team of Axton Ray and Morgan Dash came from trailer parks, now they intend to turn rags to riches.

Big Damo - A burley, unconsolable beast who brute forces his way to success.

Calvin Tankman - A cigar smoking, confident killer. Bold, big, intimidating. Perhaps could be given a possee of sorts that he could lead.

The C/Kara Facade - The team of Cara Noir and Ender Kara. Theatric, unpredictable, unorthodox and willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.

Caution Shock - The team of Danny Black and Joe Lando. Adrenaline junkies.

Dijak - A Terminator style character, as he identifies his goal, and then rips through any roadblock preventing him from reaching it with robotic determination.

Dreamweaver - FKA Velveteen Dream, a flamboyant, provocative portrait. A walking mind game.

Cashflow - The team of Eli Everfly and Ken Broadway. The green tongue of The Fly taking on a new meaning. Money.

Fantom - FKA Flamita, a ghost themed luchador, lurking in the shadows, in the background of scenes that don't involve him, white and grey attire, possession powers if you want to go the whole nine yards.

Fred Yehi - A small but mighty grappler trying to use his legitimate ability opposite all of the insane characters with unnatural powers. Potentially a comedy character due to the absurdity.

Lucha Lumbre - The team of Fuego & Metalik, fire themed luchadors with red, orange and yellow attire. Eventually, Metalik would turn on Fuego and become a demon oriented luchador to oppose Aetherio, but for now they're a tag team.

Glitch - FKA Scrypts, a hard to catch high-flier with a virus themed character. His attire a colorful mix of static, his goal to corrupt.

Grizzled Young Veterans - The team of James Drake and Zack Gibson. A couple of rough and rowdy instigators who reek of over confidence.

James Storm - A ranger character who has clearly been around the block a few times. Respected and feared.

Joey Janela - An addict of hardcore who seeks out death defying spots and extreme experiences.

Leon Ruff - The more extreme version of Fred Yehi's character. In a company full of massive lads, the lanky, toothpick like physique of Leon Ruff sticks out. Ultimate underdog.

Mark Andrews - A mature, fun-loving, unbothered character who doesn't initiate fights, but never backs down from them.

Mark Haskins - A gritty, unapologetic bruiser who has been denied the spotlight too long.

Marty Moth - A tortured soul incompatible with human society, finds comfort in the moths. On multiple occasions will summon or vomit swarms of moths. Potentially transforms into a moth man like creature in the future.

Matt Riddle - Signed to MLW, but they're good about letting their talent work other places. Could go either way here. Either a lovable goofball face who is patient until he's not or a straight up sleazy 'mama said knock you out' heel in a Monster Energy hat.

Miro - With Miro constantly at odds with AEW, it's clear he will not be with the company much longer, but he has such a poor image now that it will need to be rehabbed prior to a WWE return. Perfect. You can take or leave the God stuff, but at his roots a bulldozer with anger issues who wants to run through everyone.

Mustafa Ali - An underdog who has always been on the cusp of greatness, finally getting the opportunity, in a land of giants once more.

Mercy Killers - The team of MV Young and Shane Mercer. No nonsense, take no prisoners, slaughterers.

Ruckus - A deathmatch veteran, wise-cracking and unafraid. Potentially a mentor to Joey Janela until he loses to Janela and the student becomes the master.

Starboy Charlie - A rookie kid who is over eager and signs the most dangerous first wrestling contract he possibly could have. Having to grapple with his dream of being a great pro wrestler and his reality of being in the Alcatraz of pro wrestling.

TJP - A cocky, over confident, relying on past success veteran who loses one too many times and introduces The Aswang. The moment when Dark Metalik meets Aswang TJP would be peak.

Tre Lamar - A suave, self-assured young man with a wrestling style that matches his personality. Very jarring to his opponents and hard to get a read on.

Trevor Lee - FKA Cameron Grimes, A thrillbilly so to speak. Caution to the wind, yet cunning and smart, lovable in the ways he figures out how to survive his bigger competitors.

Tucker - An accomplished Irish indie star who makes the trek over the pond in hopes of becoming more. Potentially sparks a friendship with Mark Andrews.

Ashley D'Amboise - A confident upstart with attitude. Always searching for a fight.

Hyan - A mature beyond her years competitor with star aura. Doesn't whine or call for opportunities, she simply creates them.

Jada Stone - An over eager, hopeful to impress high flyer who often goes too high risk and pays for it.

Janai Kai - A brooding, menacing mixed martial artist with relentless pressure.

Kate Lynn - FKA Kaitlyn, a veteran who early on calls out her foes and believes they're smoke and mirrors only to discover they're legit. Begins to regret returning and has to either reinvent herself to fit the gritty environment or call it quits.

Kamron Branae - FKA Amari Miller, a bubbly fun-loving girl who is willing to throw down when it counts.

Megan Bayne - A royal, entitled woman who disregards her peers and often outshines her competition.

Nixon Newell - FKA Tegan Nox, an unassuming girl next door who manages to succeed through pure determination, surprising her more rough opposition.

Rina Yamashita - A deathmatch queen who is denied the chance to compete in deathmatches and forced to compete within ordinary rules. She comes up short continuously before finally getting her wish and ruining whoever she faces in her first deathmatch. From there on, she is transformed, bringing an insurmountable aura to any fight.

Sandra Moone - An energetic, bouncy competitor who frustrates her darker opponents with annoyingly chirpy and cheerful response to their challenges. Able to be sarcastic as well, not one dimensional.

Vert Vixen - A battle tested combat artist with a willingness to fight anyone for a chance at Gold.

Zayda Steel - A plastic, pretentious girl with a Barbie-like demeanor and attitude. Never seems to realize the danger she's in given her environment. Always making suggestions about how they could make the arena prettier.

The promotion would be titled Pro Wrestling Reborn with the following titles in effect.

• Reborn Championship

• Reborn Women's Championship

• Reborn Companion Championships

I would also bring in Shane McMahon to add an air of legitimacy since he seems interested in the business still, but talks have fallen through with AEW, it seems. He has also worked with Prinze Jr. prior.

It would need to be hosted in some specialty arena like the temple was in Lucha Underground. I'll leave that one up to you, maybe a bomb shelter, idk.

I wanted to bring in Michael Oku and Millie McKenzie, but both have expressed an unwillingness to work permanently outside of the UK, so it felt unrealistic.

Let me know what y'all think!
