As the title says, my aunt is in the hospital and drama that started years ago is keeping me from seeing her. Possibly for the last time. The drama started after my mother chose to stay friends with my ex after our divorce. Due to the abuse my oldest daughter suffered at the hands of my ex I cut my mother off from seeing her. Mostly because she was trying to convince my daughter that my ex was inherently good but her temper got the best of her at times. Over time I remarried and mom was not accepting of my new wife. I stuck to cutting her off and told her it was in the best interests of my new family.

Now years later I have not been to family gatherings and she still is friends with the ex. Still wants my daughter to make up with my ex. They haven’t spoken in 8 years. I got a courtesy text that my aunt is not well. She had no kids of her own and mom has been her caregiver for the last few years. I can’t visit because when I try it’s just an ambush to guilt me over my divorce. The ex has been married and divorced twice since me.

I want to see my aunt because this may be it. But I know if I go I won’t get near her room before people start in. Not sure what I should do. I’m not sure I’ll be welcome at the funeral either.
