Hi all,

I’m writing from Los Angeles. My best friends brother was diagnosed with bi-polar 3-4 years ago and he’s in a deep state of mania right now. He’s actually been in it for about a month or more. Mid to late September he left his house and walked three cities over and was exhausted and talking a lot of nonsense and said some violent things (eg shooting me in the head and stomach) whenever we would try to approach him. We were finally able to surround him and put him into the car with his elderly dad and uncle and were able to take him to the hospital where he was 51/50’d. Unfortunately they released him to the psych ward and they were unable to do anything for him. Now he has been out of the hospital for almost two weeks and his family is desperate and exhausted. No one has slept and he’s becoming more violent. The police won’t do anything and they’re trying to take him to the hospital as a last resort. Do you guys have any advice or resources you recommend for someone & their family going through this? My best friends parents are retired and elderly and they’re worried and love their son, but they also have not been sleeping or eating. If you can, any advice would be great. Thank you!
