My cousin (27m) was the manager at a restaurant owned by his step-dad. While he was working there, he slept with a 16-year-old employee. Her parents found out about it, and pressed charges.
My entire family is acting like this is no big deal. Everyone except our grandma loves near a school, so he had to move in with Granny. She takes ridiculously good care of him. She does his laundry, makes & serves him 3 meals a day, cares for his cats. She was taking him to & from work until he bought a brand new muscle car of some sort. He lives there rent free and is absolutely spoiled - all because he committed a freaking crime against a teenage girl who worked for him!!
His brother is a cop and they have a younger sister, who also says that it's not a big deal! My mom says she feels sorry for him for having to register as a sex offender and she doesn't think it was that bad. My dad says 16 is old enough to know how to say no. It's insane! If a 27 year old had even thought about having sex with me, my parents would have murdered him. How can they not feel the same way about this other girl??
I'm just sort of screaming into the void about this. It was on my mind tonight, and I'm feeling particularly bothered by it.
TL;DR: Cousin is a registered sex offender, and the family is fine with what he did.
