Fairphone 1 is now back 3 major android versions - is android 4.4.4 the end?
Post Body

Android 4.4.4 for the FP1 is supposed to be released "soon".

Meanwhile android has progressed over 5 and 6 to 7.

Is Android 4.4.4 the end for the Fairphone 1? Is there hope for anything more recent? I'd be happy with an entirely different system like Ubuntu phone too.

I also looked up what kernel my FP1 currently runs on and it's 3.4. According to Wikipedia the EOL for linux 3.4 is september 2016, so only a couple of days of upstream support are left.

Is there any hope for a newer kernel or do all the driver versions in existence for that hardware require linux 3.4 and starting in a few days we are stuck with a linux kernel that is not supported by upstream anymore and relies on community backports?
