I posted recently on an adjacent issue of city blocks here. Much but not all of the interim was time where I was prevented by life from visiting this issue in earnest.
Now that I'm back, I'm resolved to generate some blue city-plan blueprints for myself that are chunk-aligned.
I'm curious what people's gut feelings are about a city block that is "too big," or excessive.
All blocks will be squares, to start. I've already browsed for chunk-aligned train blueprints, and I like the idea of this one as it incorporates 2-lane and 4-lane. I might extend it to include 6- and 8-lane variants on my own, but that's a separate matter, of course. This, my interstitial / inter-block access isn't a part of my question here.
I plan on deciding on a basic size for my city blocks, and then I'll work on incorporating power and signal wires uniformly once I've decided on a size.
I'm theoretically open to non-square equilateral grid segments, such as hexagonal, but I anticipate that if that happens at all, it'll be something best left for my next project and not this one.
tldr -- As the subject header asks, how big is "way too big" for a city block? For round figures, I'm going to begin my experimentation at 10*10. Does this seem small?
Update: 1010 chunks is wonderful so far. Design goal for this playthrough is to heavily incorporate LTN with mono-cargo train "meshwork." Megabase goals will necessitate extremely-high-throughput loader / unloader platforms based on Angel's Warehouses instead of chests, and some sort of Loader Redux and / or Miniloader setup in lieu of inserters. Science lab array would thus require seven offloader platforms, plus PAX, plus a bypass lane. 1010 affords ample spacing for this largest-case scenario without excessive waste. May provide screenshots at later stage of development.
Update2: Pictures of 10 * 10 first-draft results are encouraging.
