Thought I'd pass this on.
When I tried to start the FB Messenger app on my laptop (Windows 10), it would not proceed past Getting started.... Messenger was working fine on every other device: app on another PC, iPad, Android phone, Chrome on PC etc. I spent hours trying to figure this out, I would search the web, try all sorts of things, none of those would work (made me realize how may shitty eHow like site there are with useless copy paste info). I'd give it a few months, try again and nothing.
Recently I stumbled on a reddit post (learned to add reddit to my google searches!) , it was for MacOS and they solved the issue by resetting the keychain. That got me thinking!
I solved it by opening up the Control Panel in Windows 10 (the old Control Panel that's been around for ages) > User Accounts > Manage Windows Credentials > Deleted the Messenger credential. Started Messenger and it worked. I had log back in of course since the credentials were deleted.
Hopefully this helps someone else.
THANK YOU! WORKED IMMEDIATELY 🙏🙏
