(Caveat: The account is under my first and middle name, not last. I know it’s against TOS, but there’s a reason. I worked for a somewhat prominent employer and my name was out there attached to their business. I wanted a (very small) degree of separation between work and my personal life, so that’s why I did that.)
Apologies in advance for a lengthy post.
I have two-factor authentication on my account.
I had been using a third-party app (Duo) to generate authentication codes. I switched phones a couple months ago. I could never get Duo for Facebook set up properly on this new phone. Not sure why. I stopped using it.
About a week ago, the Facebook app on this phone wanted an authentication code. I clicked send to SMS, as I always do. The code has never appeared. I never had issues with codes arriving before this. So now I’m locked out of the app on my phone.
I checked on the desktop website and confirmed that, yes, the confirmed phone number in my account is correct.
A couple days later, same issue pops up on my work laptop. I click to send an authentication via SMS, never get it. So now I can’t use Facebook on my laptops (home and work).
It asked me to go through a recovery process that involved 1) emailing a recovery code to the account on file, and that worked the way it should; and 2) sending a photo ID displaying my name. I did this twice last week and never heard back.
I reached out to FB on Twitter and never got a response. Apparently there is no email address to contact someone directly.
The only way I can access my account at this point is through my phone’s web browser (Chrome).
Any thoughts on how I can solve this? If I lose my account that I’ve had since 2004, I lose it. But I’d like to avoid it. Thank you.
