What is Signal code used for when a Facebook user requests the recipient of PM to reveal said code.

While i been chatting on FB Messenger with another person they sent a Signal Code (not even sure it's a person anymore), to my mob ph. then asked me to reveal this code to them. Is this legit or maybe a Scammer.
