Canadians who moved to US on F1 status, did you move any personal goods? How was the process?
Post Body

In a bit of a conundrum. I want to move personal use goods to the US where I start my studies end of this month.

Initially, I had planned to drop off all the stuff in my new apartment in NYC, go back to Canada to wrap up a few things, and then when Iโ€™m ready to start my classes, thatโ€™s when I have my entry into the US on F1 status. That is to say that for the purpose of dropping off my personal belongings, I was intending to go as a visitor.

Is this something I can do? Can the border officers charge me duties or something or refuse to allow me to take the stuff considering I would not have activated my F1 status by then? Anybody else who did this moving from Canada to the US with personal items, please advise. Thanks so much!
