Need help with My New to me 2013 Fx4 and eco boost?

I just bought this truck and it s awesome, but I just noticed the tailgate latch is broken, but it has the bed cover on it and I can’t get the damn thing opened to replace the latch? Any idea how or where to get the cover up to move forward without breaking anything. Tailgate also has the step built into the gate if that matters?
