Post Body

This is just my fairly insignificant opinion but maybe I can help a couple people with choices.

I bought the truck in December after putting off buying a truck for about two years (yeah I know bad time to buy, that’s why I did new and took advantage of 0% APR).

My previous work truck was a 2003 F250 SD with the 5.4l and was starting to have issues at around 259,000 miles. I’m a residential contractor part time and mostly focus on interiors so I really couldn’t justify purchasing a F-250 or Ram 2500 without a need for towing. I’ve got three kids and I’m a full time firefighter so I wanted something that could fit my kids and something that was fuel efficient. I was looking heavily at the Tundras but couldn’t justify the price and fuel efficient or lack of I should say. My second choice was a F-150, I really liked the 2021 interior and was interested in the 2.7l after driving it. I ended up finding an XL with all the features I wanted (I wanted vinyl but also wanted power options, tow tech, 360 camera, 4x4, etc).

So my suggestions/recommendations on the those looking for a vehicle:

I love the 2.7L it’s done everything I’ve asked of it and I’m currently sitting at 19.4 mpg city miles over the last 250 miles on the computer and 18.2 the last time I calculated by hand. I have been driving more conservatively now that the newness of the vehicle had work off some lol. Even when I was pushing it I was still over 16.5.

If you tow often I would consider the 3.5 or 5.0. If you enjoy a v8 then by all means the 5.0 is great but the 2.7 has been amazing for me so far. I suggest you just test drive all three.

Fuel tank: if I could I would go back and get the 36g tank. I don’t fill up even once a week but I would like the larger tank.

Bed size: I’ve got the 5 1/2 foot bed and it’s all I need because I’m using a tonnue cover instead of tool box so I’ve got the room for what I need. I will say that if you can get the 6 1/2 then test drive it, make sure you can park where you want etc and go for it. I’m completely satisfied with the 5.5 but more space would always be nice.

The TLDR;

The 2.7L is great but test drive it and the others! The 5.5 bed is fine for me and most people but if you can get the 6.5 and still park where you want then get it. The 36 gal fuel tank would be nice!!
