I'm certain there must be quite a few other people on this sub that have upgraded their audio systems in these trucks. I used to have a 2008 f150 (may Luna's soul rest in peace) that had a full system that I put in myself, the only thing I had to purchase was an enclosure for my two tens. I had an aftermarket touch screen H/U, two Kenwood 10" subs, door speakers, and separate amps for the subs and door speakers.
On to my current vehicle, it's a 2014 F150 Platinum. It has the 'luxury Sony sound system with the tweeters, dash speaker and the 8" factory sub, and the head unit is the sync 2.
I want to upgrade the whole thing, new speakers, 2 12s under the backseat and a new head unit. But, I can't seem to find a solid lead on aftermarket head units that retain the stock controls. It seems like my heated and cooled seats are only operable from the sync system, and it's nice sometimes having climate controls both as physical buttons AND on the touchscreen for the missus (when we're driving together she definitely tends to favor the touch controls over the buttons).
For those that have done this before, what are your system specs:
What head unit do you have? Does it maintain certain factory controls? Do you like the unit you went with or would you change it to another one you were considering at the time?
What door speakers did you run? Which amplifier did you use for those?
Do you have subs? 8s"? 10s"? 12"? What amplifier do you use for those?
Tweeters? Dash speakers?
Any and all information is helpful, I miss my old system so bad. The factory audio is actually decent, but I miss the punch of my old one.
