Post Body

Hey everyone! Been a long time lurker, generational Ford owner. Grandfather drove a '89 F-150(which I own now), Dad drives '99 F-150 Lariat. I started with an '05 Explorer SportTrac for 5 years, then a '15 Explorer Sport for 5 years and now a '22 F-150 XLT Powerboost for 5 hours.

I'd been doing my research on the Lightning and the Powerboost since they were announced. I had an order for the Lightning 2 years ago but realized paying $1,200 monthly for 6 years just wasn't financially smart for me. Waited and saved a bit and came to the conclusion that the Powerboost was the best for my needs and my $$$. I live in an area where electricity can go down without any notice for hours and even days if it's serious. I searched all of Florida and found 'The One'. It has what I want, looks like what I want, and only had 24k miles!!!

Well drove up to Sarasota Ford last Thursday and took possession of it for 42k. Beautiful dealer, very knowledgeable and helpful sales people (although we couldn't manage to get my Fordpass connected). At 830pm I drove my truck off the lot for a solid 352 mile maiden voyage back to my home. I was absolutely blown away by the power it had but I actually wanted to test it's fuel efficiency to brag to my coworkers. Driving silently on electric at 45 mph was so trippy. I ended up getting an average of 24.8 mpg. I filled up 100 miles from home and my estimated range said 717 miles left.

Unfortunately I wish I could tell y'all how much I love driving it and talk all about how amazing it is to tow fishing boats around with my friends but I can't. 35 miles away from home at like 330am the thermostat started creeping up. I had been driving with the AC on in eco for the entirety of the trip but instantly shut the AC off, lowered the windows and changed to normal mode. The temp continued to rise so I pulled over shut the vehicle off, popped the hood, checked the fluids (hot but normal), and let the engine cool. After 30 minutes I started back on the road with my fingers crossed. I made it 25 miles before the thermostat SHOT up and gave me a warning for the fluid temp being too high. Defeated I pulled over again and died inside when I saw smoke come through the air vents, checking the engine bay revealed the reservoir was almost bone dry, checking the underside killed me. Fluid was pouring out the right side of the truck. Some swearing and another 30 mins later I filled the reservoir with the spare water bottles I had. This time I feathered the throttle like it was glass to prevent the ICE from kicking on. Thank the damn stars this thing had an electric motor! I was able to get to 45mph and cover the 15 miles to my home using only electric driving. The engine only kicked on when I back it into my driveway and I immediately shut it off.

Called Ford, got it towed to my local dealer who were definitely not happy to service a newly purchased vehicle I didn't buy from them. Had to rent a uhaul through the weekend since they didn't have any loaners for me. Yesterday they put me in a '24 Explorer and let me know my truck wouldn't be seen until the 18th :/. The service department let me know if they find anything Sarasota Ford missed I'd be charged an additional $200 diagnostic fee, so that's fun. I'm in good spirits, it's under factory warranty and at this point it's out of my hands and I'm just hoping to be able to get it back soon. It is what it is, I still think the truck is awesome just sucks I didn't get to drive it around.

TLDR: Bought a used Powerboost with 24k miles, only drove it for 5 and a half hours before it overheated, been in the shop since. Electric motor is highly useful.

Everyone knows that when someone is referring to the thermostat shooting up it is implied that they are talking about the gauge. Stop being a dumbass and over complicating basic fucking terminology.

Are you too stupid to understand someone using the term “shot up” to indicate the gauge quickly went up?

Or are you just autistic?
