I’m a 25 year old male. Born with congenital lamellar cataracts. The gene for the cataracts was found and it’s isolated so non syndromic.
Anyway I asked during a yearly exam since my eyelids were slightly different in presentation. Upon measuring he said I have ptosis in BOTH eyelids. I was concerned immediately but he shrugged it off. He said that mild ptosis is very common and the only reason it’s considered ‘rare’ is because it’s just because since it’s usually that way from birth no one bothers to get it diagnosed.
Is that true? I was still concerned since dr google seems to imply congenital ptosis is mostly associated with health issues so he referred me to neurology who echoed exactly what he said. One neuro even showed he had ptosis too since birth.
I don’t mean to distrust docs but everything online seems to imply ptosis is typically not just anatomy being outside the norm and when I see this groups comment on ‘7.9 per 100,000’ I really got confused given how much this conflicts with what I was told..
