What is your goal about any of this talk around meat and veganism? and which one is better?
Where are you trying to get with any of this?
Are you trying to live forever?
Why is it so important to turn everything into a rule about how one should eat or one shouldn't eat or having a formula that works for everyone . . .a one-size fits all?
Have you ever thought about what drives that way of thinking?
How about having the goal of really enjoying life / learning to reframe the circumstances to see what's good about life versus what's wrong?
The reality is that some people live over 100 eating meat, being vegan, being fruitarian or whatever. . .there is no "one-size-fits all".
I'm a health practitioner and coach and found that the majority of people's health problems stem not so much from what they eat but rather a failure in their ability to eliminate waste properly from their body. . . just a different way of looking at things but actually common sense.
Here's a simple example. .. you forget to change a baby's diaper, the baby gets a rash. If we're constipated, have low kidney function (which is a scientifically agreed upon in allopathic and alternative medicine that kidney damage occurs with prolonged high blood pressure) or if we're not sweating properly which commonly happens with an under-active thyroid gland - then guess what . . .waste accumulates and we get that same rash or inflammation INSIDE the body. . .plain and simple. . .what you can't eliminate, you accumulate. If the thing we accumulate is acidic, we get inflammation where that occurs. . .Over time, this prolonged inflammation can and does lead to health issues . . .it is pretty much an agreed upon principal in allopathic and alternative medicine that inflammation is the problem - but it's so so so obvious a blind spot of how this occurs, that we pretty much all missed it . . .and mind-blowing that this does not get taught in medical schools or naturopathic schools . . .I have a client who is an MD and others who are naturopathic doctors who said they didn't learn this in schools. . .Then again this might not be such a surprise . . .after all the two most important areas in life of how to manage and grow one's finances and how to communicate in relationships with the opposite sex are not taught in grade schools or university. I don't think it's a conspiracy or anyone's fault. . .just a big oversight and lack of awareness.
For this reason, I found that perhaps a much better goal to have instead of worrying about dying / trying to live forever with whatever you eat - how about dropping that whole conversation and instead focusing instead on going towards the things in life that have life be good and increase your enjoyment.
Here's the rationale behind that. . .when I'm doing things I enjoy and experiencing less stress, my blood pressure is lower and my kidneys actually work better and my body can get rid of waste / detox more efficient (and yes - there is a clear way of measuring this). Second, when I am in a higher state of joy, my body produces different hormones (more endorphins, serotonin and dopamine) which also have more of a diuretic effect on the body (so things get out better, bowels work better, etc) so inflammation goes down. I could give you countless examples of clients I worked with where - when they were doing things they enjoyed, their symptoms disappeared.
At this point, someone might say "yeah but. . .I still don't know what to eat". How about try an experiment. . .instead of judging food as good or bad (there is no such thing as good or bad food inherently. . .some people live over 100 eating all types of food so how could we possibly judge something as good or bad) - how about instead, if you're going to eat something, enjoy what you eat. . .really take the time to get pleasure out of it and savour it . . . whatever it is. So if you're going to eat a hot dog and feel guilty about it(I don't eat hot dogs by the way but for example sake, say you do), when you're eating, don't say to yourself "I'm a bad person and I shouldn't be eating this" and judge yourself, how about really savour and enjoy it. There's also a piece about discovering what unique diet works for your unique body. . .we're all completely different and unique. . .for some it may be vegan, for some meat, for some fruitarian and it's all good and great whatever you're doing. . .Do discover this - you have to play around and experiment from an open mind and find out what diet works for you.
I know that letting go of a belief can feel like dying or if someone suggests this can feel like an attack. If someone wrote a note to me like this years ago, I'd told them to f-off and hate them for it. . .and when I eventually had to do this years ago, letting go of dogmatic beliefs - it was one of the hardest things I ever did. . .felt like my whole world was imploding, but I didn't die however and came out much more peaceful on the other side without the dogma. . .enjoying food more versus in heavy judgment.
Funny. . .I started working with people on their diets from a dogmatic viewpoint, and slowly transitioned to working with them more on going towards fulfilling goals in life instead and letting go of the judgment around food . . .found that people got way way way better results around their health at the end of the day. . .as people get more of the things they want, their body works better. . .maybe that's the thing that keeps people alive the longest at the end of the day :) Hope that helps.
