ELI5: Why is it harder to keep things cold than hot?

When you buy a thermos or lunch container they usually have a rating on them that tells you how long it will keep things hot and how long it will keep them cold. On everything, at least what the mugs/ thermoses I looked at, they all said it kept things hot for longer then it kept things cold. Like it would say it would keep the liquid inside hot for like 12 hours, but if it was cold it was only 8 hours. Why is this?
