ELI5, Why are ginger ale and ginger beer non-alcoholic when most other beers and ales are inherently alcoholic?

Title. I was just curious because other than root beer, any time the word beer is used, it's in the context of an alcoholic drink. Same with ale. Off the top of my head I can't think of any non-alcoholic ale. Would love some insight.

Comments

Ginger ale and ginger beer are called that simply because of how they were originally made, not because they’re alcoholic. And historically, they were fermented like beer, but the fermentation stopped early, so they never got enough alcohol to count as alcoholic drinks. I think over time, modern production has switched to just mixing flavors and carbonation, so now they’re non-alcoholic by design.
