ELI5: Meaning of Upstream vs. Downstream (Drivers of Health Outcomes)

Post Body

Hi all!

For some reason I am having trouble wrapping my head around what "upstream" vs. "downstream" drivers can mean in the context of my health outcome factors.

The context of the lecture is understanding complex causal pathways to understand how things happen and potential areas for intervention. Instead of hearing what my professor is saying when they are talking about these up and down stream things, I am distracted trying to mentally map what direction we are talking about and what it actually implies.

Please help : ) Thanks in advance!
