ELI5: UK TV Tax and Random Theft of Items
Post Flair (click to view more posts with a particular flair)
Post Body

Hello,

American here. I've heard about the UK's TV tax, but can the government really break into your house and steal random items to recover a certain fee?

I saw a video of someone using a grappling hook thing though a window to steal items from someone's house. When he said he was levying a "TV Tax" I thought it was a thief just making stuff up after being caught.

UK folks, can they really steal random objects for a back fee? Is that remotely legal?
