Help me understand the problem with defense and escort please.

Why do people not understand that you have to be inside the objective area to advance it? I picked that up pretty quick on my own and all day today I’ve at most had 3 in on defenses if I’m lucky. If it’s a knowledge problem why doesn’t the game explain the mission types better?
