I've been trying to leave Indonesia for years due to lifelong abuse from family, schools, workplaces, and hospitals. As a LGBTQI person, an atheist, and an ex-Muslim, I face significant danger just for existing. I am also chronically ill and untreated, and being abused daily and starved and neglected by my family. The country has no accessible shelters for victims of abuse, and when I sought help from organizations and authorities here, they either ignored me or refused to help.
Despite contacting almost 100 local and international organization including UNHCR Indonesia, UN Women, journalist, activists, news program, I haven’t received any meaningful help or guidance. I’ve tried every number and email I could find, but the system is unresponsive, and I can’t risk going to local authorities due to corruption and victim-blaming.
I'm reaching out here to ask if anyone knows of resources, people, or organizations that could help me escape this abusive situation and apply for refugee status, ideally in Canada. I would deeply appreciate any advice, contacts, or even fundraising ideas to help me leave Indonesia safely. At this point, any assistance would mean the world.
